O-ringSelection of factors to be considered
O-ring in use need to consider the specific working conditions and conditions of use, temperature and pressure will have an effect on the O-ring seal and loss. Therefore, in the use of O-type rubber seals need to consider the following 5 points:
1. Working medium and working conditions;
2. The compatibility of the product with the working medium, and then consider the pressure, temperature, continuous working time, operation cycle and other conditions at the seal, and the temperature rise caused by friction heat should also be considered when rotating;
3. Seal form: shaft seal radial installation, should make the O-ring inner diameter and the deviation between the diameter of the seal as small as possible; for hole seal, should make its inner diameter equal to or slightly less than the groove diameter. During axial installation, the pressure direction should also be considered. During internal pressure, the outer diameter of the O-ring should be about 1% ~ 2% larger than the outer diameter of the groove. During outer diameter pressure, the inner diameter ratio of the O-ring should be about 1% ~ 3% smaller than that of the groove.
4. Other factors affecting the sealing performance

1) Hardness: Determine the compression of the O-ring and the maximum allowable extrusion gap of the groove;
2) extrusion gap: system pressure, O-ring cross-sectional diameter and material hardness.
3) Compression permanent deformation: Under pressure, to prevent permanent plastic deformation. The maximum compression allowed by the O-ring is about 30% in the static seal and about 20% in the dynamic seal.
4) Pre-compression: In order to ensure the sealing in the groove of the O-ring, an initial compression amount should be reserved. The pre-compression amount relative to the cross-sectional diameter is usually about 15% in the static seal. ~ 30%, about 9% ~ 25% in the dynamic seal.
5) Stretching and compression: For hole seals, the O-ring is in tension with a maximum allowable tension of 6%. For shaft seals, the O-ring is compressed along the circumference direction with a maximum allowable circumference compression of 3%.
5.O-rings are used for sealing rotating shafts with low-speed rotating motion and short operation cycle. When the circumferential speed is lower than 0.5 m/s, the selection of O-rings can be based on normal design standards. When the circumferential velocity is greater than 0.5 m/s, the shrinkage of the elongated rubber ring after heating should be considered. The sealing ring should be selected so that its inner diameter is about 2% larger than the diameter of the sealed shaft.
