To choose the right silicone gasket seal as a seal, we should first consider what requirements we need to meet the gasket.
To choose the rightSilicone gasket sealAs a seal, we should first consider what requirements we need to meet the sealing gasket, can refer to the following
1. Working temperature range Silicone gasket seals should have a reasonable service life in the working environment at high or low working temperature. In order to maintain the seal under the working environment conditions, the silicone gasket seal material should be able to withstand creep to reduce the silicone gasket seal stress relaxation.
At room temperature, most silicone gasket seal materials have no major creep, but with the increase of temperature (more than 100 ℃), in addition to most metal gaskets, the creep of gasket seals of other materials becomes serious. Therefore, it is easy to distinguish the quality of silicone gasket seals from the creep relaxation performance at different temperatures. In addition to high or low operating temperatures that can be tolerated for a short period of time, the temperature at which continuous operation is permitted should be considered, typically below the high operating ambient temperature and above the low operating ambient temperature.
2. Working environment pressure silicone gasket seals must withstand large working pressure. This pressure may be the test pressure, as the test pressure may be 1.25 to 1.5 times the large working pressure.
For gasket seals of non-metallic materials, because of its P×T value has a limit value, when selecting its large working pressure, it is necessary to consider the high working temperature that the silicone gasket seals can withstand, especially saturated water vapor. The higher the steam pressure, the higher the steam temperature. For general vacuum (760~1Torr)(1Torr = 133.322Pa), rubber or rubber bonded fiber compression gaskets can be used as seals. For higher vacuum (1~1 × 10-7Torr), rubber O-rings or rectangular molded sealing strips can be used. For very high vacuum (above 1 × 10-7Torr), special sealing materials and structural forms are required.

3. If sealing highly toxic chemicals, the gasket is required to have a larger. For example, for liquefied gas systems, wound gaskets are preferred as seals, and should be in the form of an outer ring, so that they have a high resistance to blowing out. In addition, the oil refining plant, there are fire requirements. For example, for piping systems that transport flammable liquids, non-metallic gaskets are used on full-plane or raised-face flanges with a high operating pressure of 5Mpa and a high operating temperature of 400°C.
4. Economy Although the gasket is relatively cheap, when choosing the quality, type and material of the silicone gasket seal, the economic consequences of material loss, shutdown loss and major damage caused by leakage should be taken into account, and the performance and price ratio of the gasket should be considered comprehensively.
5. Other considerations There are many factors that affect the selection of gasket materials and structural forms.
(1) Cyclic load If there are frequent fluctuations in temperature and pressure, the gasket must have sufficient resilience.
(2) Vibration If the pipeline vibrates, the gasket must be able to withstand repeated high cyclic stresses.
(3) Wear certain media containing suspended particles will wear the gasket, thus shortening the service life of the gasket.
(4) Contaminated media If the sealing medium is drinking water, plasma, medicine, food, beer, etc., it is necessary to consider the chemical contamination of the gasket material, and materials such as PTFE or rubber that meet the food and medical hygiene requirements should be used.
