The oil seal can be used as a dust seal, but when the dust is serious or to protect other seals, special dust seals are often used. Rubber is mostly used for dust-proof seals of hydraulic machinery, felt (square or trapezoidal) is mostly used for pneumatic machinery, metal is used for hydraulic cylinders working in airplanes and cold zones to deal with icing on the outside of piston rods, and metal is also used by chemical departments to prevent adhesion on piston rods.
Square or trapezoidal dust ring is a packing seal in the sealing mechanism. The dust-proof ability is related to the tightness of the contact. The tighter the contact, the better the dust-proof ability, but the greater the friction resistance. The wedge-shaped dust ring is actually no different from the lip ring. It relies on the contact force of the lip tip to scrape off dust and dirt. Its friction resistance is small, but the angle between the lip tip and the shaft surface has a great influence on the sealing and wear, and its dustproof efficiency. When the lip tip is outward, the included angle is greater than 4 °, and the dust-proof effect is not good when the lip tip is inward.
The contact state of the lip with the shaft surface also directly affects the dustproof effect and the wear of the lip. Several common contact conditions, including normal contact state, thin oil film, good dustproof effect and less wear; The interference is too large, the contact is too tight, and the contact surface is wide, which changes the contact angle and causes the lip tip to tilt, which not only has poor dustproof effect, but also has high friction resistance, insufficient lip tip contact and little friction, but cannot prevent dust. The contact angle of the lip tip is too large and the dustproof effect is short, it is easy to wear and become the cause of serious oil leakage.
Dust seals are extremely important to protect critical hydraulic equipment components. Infiltration of dust, not only wear seals, and will greatly wear the guide sleeve and piston rod, impurities into the hydraulic medium, will also affect the operation of the valve and pump function, in bad cases, may also damage these devices. The dust ring can remove any dust on the surface of the piston rod, but does not damage the oil film on the piston rod, which is also beneficial to the lubrication of the seal.

Different types of fixed seal or dynamic seal applications, O-ring provides designers with an effective and economical sealing element, O-ring is a two-way acting sealing element. The initial compression in the radial or axial direction upon installation gives the O-ring its own initial sealing capability. The sealing force generated by the system pressure and the initial sealing force are combined into the total sealing force, which increases with the increase of the system pressure. O-ring in the static sealing occasions, showing a prominent role.
However, in dynamic applications, the O-ring is also often used, but it is limited by the speed and pressure at the seal. Technical data: dynamic pressure: when there is no retaining ring, reciprocating motion can reach 5mpa, when there is a retaining ring, higher pressure, large compression: static seal: 20% dynamic seal of o-ring diameter: 30% pressure of o-ring diameter: static speed: reciprocating speed can reach 0.5m/when there is no retaining ring, pressure can reach 20mpa, rotation speed can reach 2.0m/when there is a retaining ring, the pressure can reach 40mpa. When there is a special retaining ring, the pressure can reach 200mpa.
