O-ringSeal
O-ringAnalysis of the use of seals O-ring seals are widely used in a variety of hydraulic and pneumatic pipe joints, flange surfaces and other connections. For the O-ring used in the movement process, when the working pressure is greater than 10MPa, such as one-way pressure, on the other side of the O-ring pressure direction to install a retaining ring;
If pressure is applied in both directions, install a backup ring on both sides of the O-ring. In order to achieve the effect of reducing friction, a wedge-shaped retaining ring can also be used. When the pressure liquid applies pressure from the left side, the right side retainer ring is pushed up, and the left side retainer ring does not contact the sealing surface, so the friction force is reduced. In general, adding a retaining ring will increase the friction of the sealing device, and the selection of a wedge-shaped retaining ring is very important to reduce this friction. For fixed O-ring seals, when the working environment pressure is greater than 32MPa, it is also necessary to add a retaining ring. After the O-ring seal is added with the retaining ring, the working pressure can be greatly improved.
The static sealing pressure can be increased to 200 ~ 700MPa; as a dynamic seal, the pressure can also reach 40MPa. The retainer also helps the O-ring seal maintain good lubrication. When using the O-ring as a reciprocating seal, attention should be paid to the damage caused by the rolling torsion of the O-ring and the increase in friction caused by adhesion, resulting in the failure of the sealing performance. If the O-ring seal is properly assembled and the working conditions are appropriate, it is generally not easy to roll or twist in the reciprocating state, because the contact area between the O-ring and the groove is greater than the friction on the sliding surface. Contact area, and the resistance of the O-ring seal itself can prevent distortion.

At the same time, the distribution of friction tends to keep the O-ring stationary in its groove, because static friction is greater than sliding friction, and the surface of the sealing groove is generally not smooth. O-rings are generally used for low-pressure pneumatic sealing systems below 0.7MPa, and require high sealing performance in the working environment. In the pneumatic sealing system, pay attention to the lubrication of the O-ring seal. Usually, in order to improve the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the O-ring seal, the sliding surface will be plated. The material of the coating also has a certain influence on the applicable life of the O-ring, and the general selection of chrome-plated steel is good.
The service life of O-ring seals is directly related to many factors such as use conditions, assembly quality, material of moving parts, processing accuracy, lubrication status, and dustproof performance. Therefore, the exact service life of the O-ring depends on the conditions of the specific working environment in order to make a judgment. The O-ring seal for dynamic sealing is a vulnerable part. In the use of any moving sealing device, it should be used according to the rated data or capacity of the O-ring seal, and it should be properly assembled so as to achieve satisfactory sealing performance.
The use of O-ring seal should try to make the direction of pressure and friction in the opposite direction, if the two forces in the same direction, the O-ring seal extrusion trend is more obvious, and will cause the reduction of the rated pressure. If the groove design does not allow the direction of pressure to be opposite to the direction of friction, a retaining ring needs to be added at a pressure of 7 to 10MPa.
The self-priming hydraulic pump and the pipeline with instantaneous flow rate greater than 10 m/s can produce negative pressure (vacuum) phenomenon, and the working condition is the sealing of negative pressure. Negative and positive pressure seals are completely different. Positive pressure oil leakage phenomenon is just the opposite, negative pressure is suction. Therefore, their sealing situation is also the opposite. If you do not pay attention, mistakenly use the positive pressure as negative pressure, it is possible to suck in the O-ring, causing air to suck in the hydraulic system device, causing the oil tank to "boil" phenomenon. For sealing situations where negative pressure or vacuum may occur, a protective groove design should be selected to prevent the O-ring seal from being sucked into the orifice.
