O-ring sealSealing principle applied in static sealing: O-ring seals are widely used in static sealing. If designed and used correctly, the O-ring seal can achieve a leak-free seal in the static seal. After the O-ring is installed in the sealing groove, its section bears the contact compression stress and produces elastic deformation. A certain initial contact pressure Po is generated on the contact surface. Even if there is no medium pressure or the pressure is very small, the O-ring seal can be sealed by its own elastic force;
When the cavity is filled with pressure medium, under the action of medium pressure, the O-ring is displaced to the low pressure side, and its elastic deformation is further increased to fill and close the gap δ. At this time, the contact pressure for sealing the auxiliary coupling surface rises to Pm: Pm = Po Pp, where Pp-contact pressure (0.1MPa) transmitted to the contact surface through the o-ring seal Pp = k p k-pressure transmission coefficient, K = 1 for the rubber o-ring seal; P-pressure of sealed liquid (0.1MPa). This greatly increases the sealing effect. Since K ≥ 1 in general, Pm>P.
It can be seen that as long as there is an initial pressure in the O-ring, a leak-free seal can be achieved. This depends on the pressure of the medium itself to change the contact state of the O-ring seal to achieve the nature of the seal, called the self-sealing effect. In theory, even if the compression deformation is zero, the seal can be maintained under oil pressure, but in fact the O-ring seal may be eccentric when installed. Therefore, after the O-ring seal is installed in the sealing groove, its section is generally subjected to 7%-30% compression deformation.

The static seal takes the larger compression ratio value, and the dynamic seal takes the smaller compression ratio value. This is because the synthetic rubber is compressed at low temperatures, so the pre-compression of the static seal O-ring should be considered to compensate for its low temperature shrinkage.
Seals function, seal ring production
The self-sealing tight hydraulic sealing ring is a kind of lip seal. The contact area of the sealing lip of the sealing ring and the sealing surface is relatively small, which can produce greater compression deformation and can obtain better sealing effect.
However, the hydraulic sealing ring is easy to wear, and its sealing effect will be obviously reduced after wear. If the O-ring is used in superposition with it, it is what we often call a combined seal. Even after the sealing lip is worn, due to the relatively large elasticity of the synthetic rubber O-ring, it will force the sealing lip of the lip sealing ring to close to the sealing surface, generating sufficient surface contact stress to achieve the sealing effect, and the friction resistance is small, the work is stable, and it is easy to assemble and repair.
Therefore, at present, the hydraulic seals widely used in full-automatic hydraulic brick presses, daily ceramic products, isostatic pressing machines for discs and discs, medium pressure grouting and high pressure grouting sanitary ceramic forming machines are almost all combined seals, such as Glauci rings and Sester rings.
