O-ringGroove notch and groove bottom fillet size?
The groove design of the O-ring includes determining the shape, size, accuracy and surface roughness of the groove. Dongsheng sealing ring tells you to seal against the movement, and the relative movement clearance should be determined. O-ring groove design principle is: easy processing, reasonable size, accuracy is easy to ensure, O-ring assembly and disassembly is more convenient. The following is an example of the rectangular groove of the O-ring to explain the design requirements of the groove width, groove depth, gap, groove wall roughness, groove notch and groove bottom fillet size.
What are the requirements for the size of the groove and the fillet of the groove bottom of the O-ring? First of all, let's first determine the O-ring in the groove and the fillet of the groove bottom in what place, from the figure we are not difficult to see, under the premise of internal pressure, the O-ring began to close to the left wall, a small closed area on the angle. Then under the action of high pressure, the O-ring seal squeezes the oil in area A to area B.

If the internal pressure is fluctuating, there will be frequent squeezing process in the groove, the work in the groove is extremely disordered, and the O-ring is prone to extrusion. So the rounded corners at the bottom of the groove seem to be bigger and better. However, when the fillet at the bottom of the groove is too large, it is also easy to "squeeze out" and make the retaining ring unable to be placed stably. The fillet of the groove bottom of the O-ring seal is mainly designed to avoid stress concentration there, and it is easy to wear or break when there is no fillet in the processing of the groove bottom.
Therefore, its size should be appropriate, and the fillet radius can be 0.2~0.5mm according to the use experience. The fillet at the notch is designed to prevent scratches when the O-ring is assembled. Because when the O-ring is approaching the notch, it quickly slides into the groove due to the contraction force. If the notch has no rounded corners, sharp edges and corners can easily scratch the O-ring. However, when the fillet is too large, it is easy to make the O-ring "extrusion" phenomenon, so the general radius is very small, only 0.1~0.2mm.
