What are the causes of sealing ring leakage?
Sealing ringThere are many reasons for leakage. Below we will learn the specific reasons for the leakage of the sealing ring. Sometimes mechanical seal leakage is not caused by end face leakage, but by the leakage of moving ring, static ring sealing ring or shaft sleeve sealing ring. The reason is the leakage of the organic rubber sealing ring and the leakage of the sealing ring at the contact between the shaft sleeve and the moving ring sealing ring. The specific reasons are as follows:
1 Leakage at rubber sealing ring of machine
The O-ring of the active ring and the static ring often causes seal leakage due to insufficient rubber finish, improper hardness, poor elasticity, large friction coefficient, unqualified geometric size, poor heat resistance and corrosion resistance.
2 Leakage at the contact between the shaft sleeve and the moving ring sealing ring
When a shaft sleeve is used for many times, the surface of the shaft sleeve will produce rough wear marks and spots at the contact between the moving ring sealing ring and the shaft sleeve, which often causes seal leakage. The main reasons are:
(1) Due to the relative movement between the moving ring sealing ring and the shaft sleeve, abrasive grains or other hard impurities are embedded in the softer sealing ring. A rubbing friction is produced on the shaft sleeve, and the surface of the shaft sleeve is not hardened or the quality of the treatment is not good, resulting in wear.
(2) As a result of rubbing and friction, the metal passivation film on the surface of the shaft sleeve is destroyed, and the electrode potential difference exists on the metal surface of the shaft sleeve, forming electrochemical corrosion. And because the contact itself and the micro-leakage have the condition of gap corrosion, therefore, the corrosion rate is higher. In addition, the moving ring seal ring on the side in contact with the atmosphere, due to the presence of oxygen, the corrosion conditions are more complex and harsh, so the wear marks and spots are more obvious.

Poly four PTFE sealing ring group used in the moving ring, because of its friction coefficient is small rubber, high smoothness, with the moving ring easy to move, therefore, better than the rubber sealing ring. The rubber seal ring is used in the static ring. Due to its good elasticity and low hardness, it is more reliable than the PTFE seal ring.
Therefore, it is also very important to choose the material of the sealing ring reasonably. According to the specific conditions such as corrosion, we have adjusted the mechanical seal as follows: PTFE ring or corrosion-resistant and temperature-resistant rubber ring is used in the static ring at the medium end, and rubber ring is used in the static ring at the atmospheric end. The dynamic ring is generally made of PTFE sealing ring, and the effect is ideal.
As there is a trace of relative movement between the moving ring sealing ring and the shaft sleeve, the leakage of the sealing ring and the analysis of the causes of abrasive particles or other hard impurities embedded in the softer sealing ring. A rubbing friction is produced on the shaft sleeve, and the surface of the shaft sleeve is not hardened or the quality of the treatment is not good, resulting in wear. To eliminate the fretting wear of the shaft sleeve, in addition to choosing spraying materials with high hardness, good corrosion resistance, strong affinity with the mother and high surface finish and better spraying process on the surface of the shaft sleeve, pay attention to the wear of the shaft sleeve during installation, replace the new shaft sleeve and new sealing ring in time, and ensure the sealing reliability from many aspects.
